Our Story

Rachel Mitchell, a Landscape architect, builder, interior and landscape designer hails from the land of architectural beauty and famous gardens, has created some memorial projects both in Oakland County neighborhood and Detroit including the full restoration of Frederick K Stearns House in historic Indian village in Detroit.

Born and raised in a family environment of builders, carpenters and nursery owners, the appreciation of a beautiful home and garden runs deep in the family tradition, and after earning business degree in China, she embarked on a journey of continuing learning both through institutions and through world travelling. From English literature, fashion design to German language, from visiting famous places in China, Japan as well as living in Germany, visiting castles, museums, gardens and art galleries in Europe to exploring in Egypt and Kenya, the Journey ended in 2016 in Detroit where she found  this is a city where the world meets and where the people are as welcoming as people at her home country.

Rachel’s Home and Garden was founded in 2020 spring during covid. Initially as a mother and son Duo to help neighbors in need to quickly joined by classmates. By 2021, she has become a well-known figure in the neighborhood by educating people of plants and gardens and installing gardens that enhance the property’s beauty as well as value. Today Rachel’s Garden has grown to a design studio as well as a landscape contracting company that meets clients need of designing and building a home that customized to their Need while maintaining integrity of design and build.

From bare dirt to a paradise garden, from conception to design, from planning to installation, it takes years of expertise in knowing each plant and how they grow over time and the vision of a perfect picture, to make a beautiful garden happen.
